REVIEW — batch-007

Source: resources/Believers-Responsibility/06-unification-church-and-the-populist-style.md (formatted; ingestion gate skipped)

Scope: 5 atomics + 1 thread (long-flagged) + 3 questions. Chapter 6 is the doctrinal-grounding chapter — Hendricks’s case that DP itself calls for the populist form.

Produced

/reference/ (5 atomics)

  1. dp-principle-of-creation-on-populist-group-growth.md — EDP p. 31 four-stage pattern
  2. dp-restoration-requires-meeting-abel-figures.md — EDP p. 194 “meeting” requirement
  3. dp-praises-free-church-not-magisterial-reformers.md — important interpretive correction (DP heritage = Wesley/Fox/Pietism, NOT Luther/Calvin)
  4. moons-early-ministry-as-populist-template.md — historical evidence of 1940s-50s populist operation
  5. uc-as-network-of-hubs-without-parish-lines.md — structural unit of the populist UC

/threads/ (1, long-flagged)

  1. what-kind-of-religion-is-uc-taxonomically.md — weaves 9 atomics into the taxonomic question. Steel-manned NRM-academic counter (placeholder, no specific source cited). Response: “still wrestling, but the wrestling has moved” — proposes a hybrid “populist NRM” middle position. New thread; expect 1500-word target.

/questions/ (3, auto-promoted)

  1. how-do-multiple-uc-hubs-in-same-neighborhood-relate-without-competition
  2. does-dp-explicitly-criticize-luther-and-calvin-or-only-omit-praise
  3. is-meeting-abel-figures-compatible-with-broadcast-streaming-ministry

Important to read

what-kind-of-religion-is-uc-taxonomically thread — the most substantive new content this batch. The response section proposes a hybrid position: UC is a populist NRM — structurally distinct from both denominational-mainline Christianity AND from low-distinctive populist evangelicals like Calvary Chapel AND from high-control NRMs like Scientology. The standard taxonomy doesn’t have a clean category for this; the thread argues that’s a problem with the taxonomy, not with UC.

dp-praises-free-church-not-magisterial-reformers — this atomic might be the single most important interpretive correction in the book. Many UC members assume DP celebrates Luther/Calvin; per Hendricks’s read, it celebrates the Wesleys and the Quakers. Question 8 surfaces a sharpening concern (does DP criticize magisterial reformers, or merely additionally praise the free-church side?).

No new tags, no new glossary, no new persons.

Sun Myung Moon will gain new backlinks from atomics 4 (his quote about shik-ku, etc.) and atomic 5 (the “Now is the time when the period of national level organization is over” quote). Total SMM backlinks now climbing toward double digits — but not all are content-rich, so still defer expanding the Person note body.

  • populist-church glossary: gains backlinks from all 5 new atomics + 1 thread (new) + 1 question (which? — need to check; probably question 1 about hubs)
  • sun-myung-moon person: gains backlinks from atomics 4 and 5; thread also wikilinks to him via existing atomics that reference him
  • home-church glossary: gains backlink from uc-as-network-of-hubs-without-parish-lines

The pre-commit hook will catch what I miss.

Stale wrestling

grounds-for-the-uc-messianic-claim — still deferred per re-engagement triggers (DP/EDP or post-2012 sources). No update this batch.

The new what-kind-of-religion-is-uc-taxonomically thread is freshly active, deliberately “still wrestling” with explicit triggers for re-engagement (academic NRM source, post-2012 sociology, BR Appendix on LDS/JW).

Proposed threads

The new thread itself was the long-pending proposal. No new thread proposals this batch.

How to review

  1. Open /staging/batch-007/ in Obsidian or VS Code.
  2. Read the new thread first — it’s the most substantive piece and the one most likely to need editing.
  3. Read the 5 atomics. The “DP praises free-church not magisterial reformers” atomic is the most interpretively significant.
  4. Read the 3 questions.
  5. Say “approved” + any edits. I’ll finalize, hook validates.
