Batch Review — CSG Book 1, Chapter 3
Secondary pass — 2026-05-21. Largest rewrite of the three Ch 1-3 REVIEWs. Original was the shortest of the batch — missing deferred-candidates, suspected-duplicates, updates-to-existing-files, and how-to-review sections. All four added. The
csg-jehovah-was-an-angel-not-godatomic was body-strengthened (~140 → ~280 words) to engage Acts 7 and Genesis 18 exegesis explicitly and to flag the response-surface for the Phase 2 thread. Two new promotion candidates surface from a Ch 3 source-text audit: spirit-world Blessing of ancestors, and (provisionally) a “three-generations” pattern claim — both queued for Phase 2 staging review. Original REVIEW preserved via git history.

New tags requested
None. All 10 atomics use tags from the closed registry (verified during secondary pass). The exegesis and biblical tags on csg-jehovah-was-an-angel-not-god are both registered (Method/epistemology category).
Secondary-pass audit considered retro-applying divine-constraint and han:
divine-constraint: Ch 3 is about restoration phases, not God’s self-binding to law per se. The closest fit iscsg-angels-mediated-gods-ot-providence(God could not appear directly because of the post-Fall relational level — a kind of structural constraint), but this is providential-mechanism not self-binding-to-law. Skip.han: Ch 3 mentions God acting “in sorrow” through angels (1-283, 1956.12.16), but the chapter’s argumentative weight is on the ascent-progression, not the affective state. Better expressed by the Ch 4 grief cluster atomics. Skip.
Deferred atomic candidates
Audit of Ch 3 source against current atomics surfaced four candidates not originally extracted. Two are promotion candidates for Phase 2; two remain deferred.
| Section | Content | Rationale | Status after secondary pass |
|---|---|---|---|
| §4.1 (172-53, 1988.1.7) | True Parents are clearing away the evil deeds of false parents, thereby abolishing hell, and giving the Blessing even to hundreds of billions of ancestors in the spirit world | Distinct claim about restoration’s reach into the spirit world. Not subsumed by csg-true-parents-as-gods-embodied-form (which focuses on embodiment), nor by csg-lineage-change-required-for-direct-sonship (which focuses on the living blood-line mechanism). Carries genuine doctrinal weight. | Promote in Phase 2 staging as csg-spirit-world-blessing-of-ancestors.md |
| §4.1 (146-275, 1986.7.20) | God is looking at three generations — your marriage, your children’s, your grandchildren’s | Specific three-generation pattern claim distinct from the three-ages (OT/NT/CTA) framework. Provisionally a promotion candidate but better timed with Book 9 (family) batches where the generational mechanism has cluster support. | Provisional Phase 2 candidate — defer decision to staging review |
| §1.3 (208-256, 1990.11.20; 121-240, 1982.10.27) | Archangels were created as servants for Adam and Eve, and stand in reciprocal subject-object relation with the earth plane | Foundational angelology that grounds the bride/archangel-realm distinction but is itself not load-bearing for the chapter’s main argument (the ascent-progression). Better atomized when DP Ch 2 (Creation / angelic realm) is ingested. | Remain deferred until DP angelology ingestion |
| §2.2 (50-56, 1971.10.31) | Christianity (and Judaism as its bride-introducing precursor) is uniquely the “religion of the bride” — all other religions are archangel-realm | The bride-religion claim is currently embedded within csg-religions-as-archangel-realm, which emphasizes the archangel-realm classification. The bride/bridegroom angle could split out, but doing so would create a near-twin atomic. Better to expand the existing atomic’s elaboration if needed, or wait for cluster support from comparative-religion batches. | Remain embedded in existing atomic |
Suspected duplicates / cross-batch notes
csg-true-parents-as-gods-embodied-form↔csg-adam-and-eve-as-god-incarnate(Ch 1). Ch 1 atomic establishes the original ideal (unfallen Adam and Eve as God incarnate); Ch 3 atomic establishes the restorative pattern (True Parents as the restored form). Both stand; the True Parents thread (when seeded) weaves both.csg-true-parents-as-gods-embodied-form↔csg-god-needs-body-via-adam-and-eve(Ch 1). Ch 1 atomic argues the need for embodiment; Ch 3 atomic argues the fulfilled embodiment. Adjacent, reinforcing.csg-restoration-ascent-servant-to-parentsis referenced forward bycsg-six-thousand-year-search-under-grief(Ch 4) per the manual**Referenced by.**annotation. Verified during secondary pass.csg-three-ages-three-methods-of-return↔csg-lineage-change-required-for-direct-sonship. Same section (§4.1); the methods-of-return claim is the surface progression, the lineage-change claim is the mechanism behind it. Both stand; both linked.csg-jehovah-was-an-angel-not-god↔csg-angels-mediated-gods-ot-providence. The two atomics are tightly related: §1.2 establishes angels-as-mediators generally; §2.1 applies the principle to identify Jehovah specifically as one such angel. The §2.1 atomic is the harder polemical claim and now anchors Phase 2’sthread-jehovah-as-angel-vs-mainstream-ot-scholarship.

Open questions raised
-
[critical]
q-jehovah-as-angel-and-ot-revelation.md— Promoted. If Jehovah was an angel in the OT, what is the authority and status of OT prophetic words attributed to God? The body-strengthenedcsg-jehovah-was-an-angel-not-godnow provides the full polemic surface; the question remains open. Triggered by: csg-jehovah-was-an-angel-not-god. -
[interesting]
q-adopted-vs-direct-lineage-what-changes-at-blessing.md— Promoted. Is the Blessing’s lineage change immediate or generational? SMM’s “three generations” language (CSG 4.1, 146-275) suggests actualization spans generations. Triggered by: csg-lineage-change-required-for-direct-sonship. -
[interesting] Justification-through-attendance vs. sola fide — The chapter frames CTA’s “justification through attendance” as a qualitatively new salvific mode superseding NT’s faith-based justification (§4.1, 161-218, 1987.2.15). Creates tension with Protestant soteriology beyond the standard grace/works debate. Original REVIEW flagged this as “worth a thread eventually”; the secondary-pass audit promotes it to Phase 2 thread seeding (
thread-mandatory-structure-of-restoration). No separate question file needed since the question collapses into the thread’s claim.
Proposed threads
The restoration + providence tag cluster now has 5+ atomics on the ascent-progression theme:
csg-restoration-ascent-servant-to-parentscsg-old-testament-age-of-servantcsg-nt-believers-as-adopted-childrencsg-lineage-change-required-for-direct-sonshipcsg-three-ages-three-methods-of-return
Proposed thread: “The Mandatory Structure of Restoration” — synthesizes the ascent chain and the methods-of-return progression. Counter: Reformed soteriology (sola fide, monergism — Calvin Institutes III.11-14; modern Reformed on once-for-all sufficiency of Christ’s atonement). Response: SMM’s three-age structure as descriptive of providential method, not soteriological merit ladder.
The restoration + biblical cluster (csg-jehovah-was-an-angel-not-god, csg-angels-mediated-gods-ot-providence, csg-religions-as-archangel-realm, csg-old-testament-age-of-servant) also warrants its own thread — the Jehovah-as-angel polemic. Phase 2 seeds both.

How to review (secondary pass)
This REVIEW was rewritten in-place; the original is preserved via git history. The csg-jehovah-was-an-angel-not-god atomic was body-strengthened in this pass — the diff shows the expansion from bare claim-and-Acts-7-mention to a fuller engagement with the moral-character argument, the Acts 7 quotation, and the Genesis 18 second exegetical pillar. The other 9 Ch 3 atomics are unchanged in body.
Phase 2 (staging batch with two threads from Ch 3 material + spirit-world Blessing atomic) lands separately; see staging/csg-01-secondary-pass/REVIEW.md.
