Batch Review — csg-book14-loyalty-and-filial-piety

Source: resources/CSG/Book14/ (7 chapter files) Scope: CSG Book14 “A Life of True Filial Piety”, chapters 1–7 Date: 2026-05-27 Variant: foundation-pass Class: CSG Style profile: Anthology of SMM teachings, structured by editors; attribute to underlying speech where indicated.

Pre-flight summary (Phase A)

  • Citation grammar: whole-file [[resources/CSG/Book14/{file}|CSG 14.N §M]] (anchor-less, with display alias). Same precedent as staging/csg-book04-true-family/. The Book14 source files have only # Section N. Title prose... H1 headings with the first prose sentence concatenated into the heading line (post-OCR / pdf-extraction artifact), so per-section anchors would resolve to long, fragile slugs. Whole-file citation + alias keeps wikilinks readable and validates cleanly against the pre-commit hook (rule 5).
  • Proposed batch: whole CSG Book14, 7 chapter files as atomization units, ~13 internal sections + 2 sectionless single-flow chapters = ~15 leaf units.
  • Soft-ceiling check: YES — 7 chapter files; 15 leaf units is at the ceiling but the leaves are tightly thematically clustered (one book-level concept: loyalty/filial piety as a single curriculum), so single batch is appropriate.
  • Staging path: staging/csg-book14-loyalty-and-filial-piety/ (collision check: clear).
  • Archive path: _meta/batch-reviews/csg-book14-loyalty-and-filial-piety.md (collision check: clear).
  • Heading-structure note: chapters 5 and 6 are single-flow files with no # Section heading at all (just frontmatter + prose). Chapters 1–4 and 7 have 2–3 # Section N. H1 headings each, with the first prose sentence concatenated into the heading line (same OCR shape as Book04). Whole-file alias citation dodges the long-anchor problem.
  • Anticipated questions resolved (auto-confirmed defaults, user AFK):
    • Whole-file vs section-anchor citation — recommended default: whole-file with alias (Book04 precedent). Confirmed.
    • Heading-bug # Section lines concatenated with prose — recommended default: proceed using whole-file alias citations; no anchor needed. Confirmed.
    • Missing recurring glossary terms (filial-piety, loyalty, patriot, saint, divine-son-daughter, virtuous-woman) — recommended default: propose stubs in REVIEW; do not create files in this batch. Confirmed.
    • Possible filial-piety / loyalty / saint / patriot tag gap — recommended default: proceed with existing tags (family, love, personhood, restoration, true-parents, lineage, eschatology, sin); list any genuinely necessary new tag request in REVIEW. Confirmed.
    • Likely overlap with staging/csg-book04-true-family/ (family / parents / true-parents cluster) — recommended default: atomize anyway and flag suspected duplicates; Gate 2 decides merges. Confirmed.
    • Variant — recommended default: proceed lean (foundation-pass / Variant 2). Confirmed.

Anticipated questions (surfaced to user; defaults auto-applied)

  1. Book14 has no Korean glossary entry for filial-piety (효 / hyo), loyalty (충 / chung), or the four-stage curriculum (filial child → patriot → saint → divine son/daughter). SMM treats these as canonical recurring Korean-Confucian categories repurposed into UC providential ethics. Should filial-piety, loyalty, saint, patriot, virtuous-woman, and divine-son-daughter be stubbed as glossary terms? Recommended default: propose stubs in this REVIEW; do not create files this batch.
  2. Tag-registry: no existing tag captures filial piety / loyalty / Confucian-virtue framing directly. Candidate new tags include filial-piety, loyalty, confucian-ethics. Proposed approach: route Book14 atomics through existing tags (family, love, personhood, restoration, eschatology, salvation, messiah, true-parents, lineage, providence) and surface any genuinely needed new tag as a registry request. Recommended default: proceed with existing tags + list filial-piety as a proposed new tag if the corpus clearly demands it.
  3. Several Book14 quotes name historical Korean figures (Yu Kwan-soon, Yi Soon-shin, Jeong Mong-ju, Shim Chung, Chun-hyang, Ito Hirobumi). None have /persons/ files. Recommended default: proceed without person wikilinks; name them inline as plain prose. Stub creation is a separate batch.
  4. The Sungsang Mountain “Heavenly Father”, “True Parent”, “Messiah”, “Jesus” content overlaps heavily with staging/csg-book04-true-family/, staging/csg-book02/, staging/csg-03-11a-the-reality-of-love-sec1-5/, and /reference/ Book01 atomics. Recommended default: atomize anyway and flag suspected duplicates; Gate 2 decides merges.
  5. Confirm Variant-2 foundation-pass mode: lean atomics only, no counter-argument sections or thread seeding. Recommended default: proceed lean.

Glossary / Person updates

  • New stubs proposed (Phase C):
    • filial-piety — recurring Book14 term (효 / hyo); Korean-Confucian virtue that SMM repurposes as the family-stage of an absolute-love curriculum culminating in divine sonship.
    • loyalty — recurring Book14 term (충 / chung); the national-stage virtue paralleling filial piety; SMM grounds it in love for God before country.
    • patriot — recurring Book14 category; second stage of the four-stage curriculum (filial child → patriot → saint → divine son/daughter).
    • saint — recurring Book14 category; third stage of the four-stage curriculum; “transcends race and nation to live for all humankind”.
    • divine-son-daughter — recurring Book14 category; fourth and culminating stage; observes “the law of the royal palace” of the heavenly nation.
    • virtuous-woman — recurring Book14 category; female parallel to filial-piety and loyalty; centered on faithfulness in the marriage and to Heaven.
    • four-stage-filial-curriculum — recurring Book14 unit; the canonical progression filial child → patriot → saint → divine son/daughter that organizes the book.
  • Existing entries newly hit by wikilinks: archangel, blessing, eschatology, fall, formation-growth-completion-stages, four-position-foundation, give-and-take-action, indemnity, lineage, messiah, original-sin, principle-of-creation, providence, purpose-of-creation, restoration, spirit-world, true-love, true-parents
  • Existing person entries newly hit by wikilinks: adam, eve, noah, jesus, mary, joseph-husband-of-mary, sun-myung-moon (mentioned implicitly throughout)

  • Threads
    • Whether SMM’s repurposing of Korean-Confucian filial-piety / loyalty is doctrinally novel or a reframing — counter-side: Western evangelicalism rejects the Confucian filial-virtue framework as cultural overlay on the gospel. Anchors: csg-filial-piety-is-the-central-thought-of-korea, csg-true-parents-extend-filial-piety-from-family-to-cosmos.
    • Whether the four-stage curriculum (filial child → patriot → saint → divine son) is a soteriological ladder or a moral-development scheme. Anchor: csg-the-four-stages-of-filial-curriculum.
    • Whether csg-priority-conflict-favors-loyalty-over-filial-piety produces practical conflict with csg-filial-children-may-counsel-their-parents in cases where parents oppose national loyalty.
    • Whether SMM’s repeated claim that “no true filial child has emerged in six thousand years” (and the implicit claim that he himself fills that role) needs apologetic framing or critical analysis.
  • Questions
    • Should filial-piety and loyalty be promoted to formal tags or kept as glossary terms only?
    • Is four-stage-filial-curriculum a discrete UC doctrinal unit comparable to four-position-foundation, or a recurring rhetorical pattern?
    • Why does Book14 specify “three countries” as the scope of mature loyalty (cf. csg-filial-piety-must-extend-to-three-countries)? Is this a UC tradition with a defined trio?
    • Should Korean historical-figure persons (Yu Kwan-soon, Yi Soon-shin, Jeong Mong-ju, Shim Chung, Chun-hyang, Ito Hirobumi) be stubbed for cross-resource indexing?
  • Web-search
    • Verify SMM’s claim about Korea’s heifer-sacrifice age and “the age of the heifer” (csg-14-04 §2) — is this a recognized SMM motif elsewhere?
    • Verify Korean filial-piety legal/cultural references (three-year mourning ritual) for accuracy in context.

How to review

  1. Open staging/csg-book14-loyalty-and-filial-piety/ in Obsidian or VS Code.
  2. Read the atomics in any order. Edit, reject, or accept in place. Atomics are filename-keyed wikilinks; moving them later is incidental.
  3. Resolve flagged items in the tables above (suspected duplicates, tag requests, new-stub proposals, validation failures).
  4. Decide which parked questions (if any) should be promoted to /questions/ immediately (default is park).
  5. Say “approved” + any edits. I’ll finalize, hook validates.
