Batch Review — csg-book16-family-pledge

Source: resources/CSG/Book16/ (2 chapter files: csg-16-01-the-family-pledge.md, csg-16-02-explanation-of-the-family-pledge.md) Scope: CSG Book16 “True Families And The Family Pledge”, chapters 1-2 — Family Pledge declaration + eight-clause explanation. ~35 lean atomics (filled at end of Phase B). Date: 2026-05-27 Variant: foundation-pass Class: CSG Style profile: Anthology of SMM teachings, structured by editors; attribute to underlying speech where indicated (date in citation). Status: Phase D complete; awaiting human review.

Pre-flight summary (Phase A)

  • Citation grammar: [[resources/CSG/Book16/{file}#h2-heading-text|H2 heading text]] — anchor verbatim from H2 subsection heading.
  • Proposed batch: whole CSG Book16, 2 chapter files as atomization units, 38 H2 subsections (12 in Ch01, 26 in Ch02). Many H2s contain dense leaf material; some carved at H3 where the H2 is too broad.
  • Soft-ceiling check: 2 chapter files is well under the ~14-unit review ceiling. Atomic count (~35) is moderate.
  • Staging path: staging/csg-book16-family-pledge/ (collision check: clear)
  • Archive path: _meta/batch-reviews/csg-book16-family-pledge.md (collision check: clear)
  • Heading-structure note: Both chapter files have the CSG H1 prose-fold bug — # Section N. lines have prose text concatenated into the heading line. Ch02 §8 also has H2 anchors that are split across two lines (## 8.1. As we enter the Completed / Testament Age, ## 8.3. To achieve…, ## 8.4. The realm of liberation…in the). Markdown only treats the first line as the heading, so anchors will be cited verbatim against the truncated H2 text — these will validate against the pre-commit hook but read awkwardly. Same pattern was de-folded in Book03 chapter 2 (commit 5d57b69); Book16 has not yet had that cleanup pass.
  • Anticipated questions resolved (auto-confirmed with recommended defaults per user instruction):
    • Q1: H1 + H2 prose-fold heading bug. Default applied: proceed as-is, cite H2 anchors verbatim (truncated where source is split), flag here for a follow-up cleanup pass.
    • Q2: Missing recurring glossary terms (cheon-il-guk, family-pledge, four-great-realms-of-heart, three-great-kingships, realm-of-the-royal-family, culture-of-heart, absolute-faith-absolute-love-absolute-obedience, original-homeland). Default applied: propose stubs in REVIEW; do not create glossary files in this batch.
    • Q3: Tag-registry gap for cheon-il-guk / “kingdom theology” / “pledge”. Default applied: proceed with existing tags (eschatology, family, true-parents, etc.); list any genuinely necessary new tag request below.
    • Q4: Suspected overlap with staging/csg-book04-true-family/ (family-as-center, Adam-family-as-original-tradition), open Book02 staging (true-parents framework), and /reference/ (Completed-Testament-Age and indemnity material). Default applied: atomize anyway, flag suspected duplicates in the table below; Gate 2 decides merges.
    • Q5: Variant. Default applied: Variant-2 foundation-pass — lean atomics only.

Anticipated questions (Gate 1)

  1. CSG Book16 source has the same H1 prose-fold bug as Book03 (now fixed) and a new H2 split-line variant in §8 of chapter 2. Proceed and cite H2 anchors verbatim (some truncated), halt for a source-cleanup pass like commit 5d57b69, or abort? Recommended default (applied): proceed and flag — citations will validate via the slugify path, but a follow-up Book16 heading-cleanup commit is recommended before re-publication.
  2. Several Book16-specific terms recur ≥3 times across the source and have no glossary entry: cheon-il-guk, family-pledge, four-great-realms-of-heart, three-great-kingships, realm-of-the-royal-family, culture-of-heart, absolute-faith-absolute-love-absolute-obedience, original-homeland. Propose glossary stubs at finalize, block until stubs exist, or skip wikilinks for these terms? Recommended default (applied): propose stubs in REVIEW; skill does not auto-create glossary files.
  3. The Family Pledge framework (Cheon Il Guk, eight pledges, etc.) is overwhelmingly post-1994 SMM material with explicit Completed-Testament-Age framing and the personal “I, Rev. Moon” voice. Many atomics will overlap with material in Book02 (True Parents), Book04 (True Family), and existing /reference/ notes on Completed-Testament-Age, indemnity, and true-parents-as-messiah. Atomize anyway and flag suspected duplicates, skip overlapping sections, or merge into existing? Recommended default (applied): atomize anyway and flag; Gate 2 review is where merge decisions happen.
  4. The eight-clause Family Pledge text itself is recited prose. Should the source-text of the pledge appear inline in every atomic that cites it (load-bearing quote), or only once in a “Family Pledge text” atomic, or never (assumed available in source)? Recommended default (applied): quote the relevant pledge clause inline in each clause-explanation atomic; that is the load-bearing evidence for the claim.
  5. Confirm Variant-2 foundation-pass — lean atomics only, no counter-arguments or thread seeding. Recommended default (applied): proceed lean.

Glossary / Person updates

  • New stubs proposed (Phase C):
    • cheon-il-guk — Book16 term for “Nation of Cosmic Peace and Unity”; recurring across all Family-Pledge clauses; explicit etymology given at Ch02 §1.1.1.
    • family-pledge — the eight-clause pledge itself; load-bearing term throughout Book16; warrants its own glossary entry with the canonical text.
    • four-great-realms-of-heart — recurring framework (child / sibling / spouse / parent) keyed to family stages.
    • three-great-kingships — recurring framework (grandparent / parent / child) keyed to past / present / future generational triplet.
    • realm-of-the-royal-family — recurring eschatological endpoint expression.
    • culture-of-heart — Pledge-7 concept for the single unified true-love culture; recurring.
    • absolute-faith-absolute-love-absolute-obedience — load-bearing Pledge-8 triple; recurring in late SMM teaching as the standard for re-entry to the Completed Testament Age.
    • original-homeland — Pledge-1 term; recurring across Book16 with theological weight beyond ordinary “hometown”.
  • Existing glossary entries newly hit by wikilinks (Phase C): blessing, dual-characteristics, eschatology, fall, formation-growth-completion-stages, four-position-foundation, give-and-take-action, indemnity, lineage, messiah, principle-of-creation, providence, purpose-of-creation, restoration, spirit-world, true-love, true-parents, divine-constraint.
  • Existing person entries newly hit by wikilinks (Phase C): adam, eve, jesus, sun-myung-moon (occasionally — SMM’s voice is generally implicit in CSG anthology citations rather than wikilinked).

Tag-registry requests

Proposed tagJustificationTrigger atomic
(none)Existing tags covered the batch. The closest gap is a cheon-il-guk / family-pledge / “kingdom-theology” cluster, but those are better expressed as glossary terms (see proposals above) than as new tags. Pledge-content was tagged using eschatology, family, restoration, four-position-foundation, lineage, blessing, true-parents, love, world-peace, give-and-take, and divine-constraint.(none)

Linking applied (Phase C)

  • related: additions: ~80 within-batch cross-refs across the ~38 atomics (each atomic carries 1–3 related links to adjacent atomics in the Pledge-clause flow).
  • Inline glossary wikilinks added: existing canonical entries linked where the target file exists (e.g. [[blessing]], [[lineage]], [[four-position-foundation]], [[messiah]], [[indemnity]], [[give-and-take-action|give and take]], [[restoration]], [[providence]], [[spirit-world]]).
  • Inline person wikilinks added: occasional [[adam]], [[eve]], [[jesus]] where the named figure is load-bearing in the atomic.
  • Suspected duplicates flagged: 12 review rows above.
  • New glossary stubs proposed: 8 concepts (see Glossary section above).

Validation failures (Phase B)

AtomicValidation rule failedNotes
(none)(none)Self-validated each atomic against word cap (CSG 500), tag registry, heading anchor (verbatim), and sources↔inline round-trip. See ## Pre-flight hook output below for hook run.

Parked items (Phase D)

Appended to _meta/parking/*.md on finalize.

  • Threads
    • Whether the Family Pledge text itself merits a thread comparing the 1994 eight-clause text to earlier “My Pledge” forms (SMM evolution within the same anthology).
    • Whether absolute-faith-absolute-love-absolute-obedience is a metaphysical-constraint claim or a self-imposed-discipline claim — late SMM doctrine warrants a careful thread once a counter-atomic exists.
    • Whether the “Cain world / Abel world” dichotomy and “absorb the Cain realm” rhetoric (Pledge 4) can be reconciled with the inclusive “universal family” framing without either softening or harshening the original.
  • Questions
    • Should the eight glossary stubs (cheon-il-guk, family-pledge, four-great-realms-of-heart, three-great-kingships, realm-of-the-royal-family, culture-of-heart, absolute-faith-absolute-love-absolute-obedience, original-homeland) be created before finalization, or promoted to a follow-up batch?
    • Does family-pledge warrant its own resource-class-like sub-folder (the eight pledge texts as quotable canonical strings) or is the CSG citation grammar sufficient?
    • Source-cleanup question: should a follow-up fix(ingest) commit de-fold the Ch01 # Section N. lines and the Ch02 §8 split H2 headings (## 8.1. As we enter the Completed / Testament Age## 8.1. As we enter the Completed Testament Age)? Citations in this batch use the verbatim truncated forms; after a de-fold, citations would need to be re-anchored to the corrected headings.
  • Web-search
    • None. This was a source-grounded foundation pass; no web lookup requested or needed.

How to review

  1. Open staging/csg-book16-family-pledge/ in Obsidian or VS Code.
  2. Read the atomics in any order. Edit, reject, or accept in place. Atomics are filename-keyed wikilinks; moving them later is incidental.
  3. Resolve flagged items in the tables above (suspected duplicates, tag requests, new-stub proposals, validation failures, source-cleanup question).
  4. Decide which parked questions (if any) should be promoted to /questions/ immediately (default is park).
  5. Say “approved” + any edits. I’ll finalize, hook validates.
