Chapter double-heading drop — strip the ### Chapter N. + ## {chapter title} block at the top of each chapter’s section-1 file. Chapter context lives in folder name + frontmatter chapter-title:.
Section-title body heading drop — strip ## **Section N {title}** heading. Section title lives in frontmatter section-title:.
Heading-depth normalize — any ^#+ \** N.M[.M] Title \**$ → ## N.M. Title (H2 two-part) or ### N.M.K. Title (H3 three-part). Bold stripped, trailing period added.
Footnote-orphan strip — digits glued to end of word/punct (e.g. defiles a man."2, engrafted with him7, branch.16). Marker emitted footnote refs but lost the definitions entirely; the orphan digits are noise.
Paragraph-mid-break join — Marker page-break artifacts where a paragraph splits across two \n\n blocks with the second starting lowercase → joined with single space.

OCR em-dash flattens. Sparse across the corpus; one confirmed instance fixed in pilot. Surface during stage-3 reading — no scripted detection (false-positive rate too high vs valid hyphenated compounds like like-minded, two-faced).
Per-section reading pass. No corpus-wide review yet — only pilot file + Part2/Ch7 trailing-overflow have been individually inspected. User should spot-check at least one section per chapter for residual OCR artifacts, citation formatting consistency, and subsection-numbering quirks.
Front matter (Preface, Introduction). Deferred per ADR-0021. Re-extract via ingest_pdf.py with explicit page ranges (PDF pp.15-28 covers both). Routes via existing 00-front-matter/ classifier.
