Summary. Esau (Genesis 25-33), elder twin of Jacob, sold his birthright for stew and was deceived out of his father’s blessing — yet later, after Jacob’s long sojourn in Haran, received him with tears and embraces (Genesis 33). In DP this voluntary submission of the elder to the younger is the textbook Cain-Abel reversal that restored the foundation of substance and qualified the family of Jacob to carry the Messianic lineage forward.
