Question. In 1991, Reverend Moon stated (Cheon Seong Gyeong pp. 291–2): “I will… hold worship services transcending all denominations. After this, I will go to spirit world. I will go there after completing that trans-denominational worship.” Per meltdown-worship, Peter Kim confirmed to Hendricks that this extends from Christian denominations to all religions. Moon died in September 2012 — 21 years after this statement. Did this trans-denominational worship actually take place, and if not (or only partially), what blocked it?
Why it matters. This is a load-bearing providential statement: Moon conditioned his own ascension on completing this work. If the work was not completed, then either (a) his statement was figurative / aspirational rather than literal, (b) the work was completed but in a form not widely recognized as such (the world peace blessings? interfaith UPF events? Family Federation interfaith chapels?), or (c) the providential expectation was not met. Any of the three has significant theological consequences. This connects to grounds-for-the-uc-messianic-claim and to the repent-for-blessing-millions critique — both about gaps between stated providential targets and actual delivery.
Current best guesses. Plausible candidate “completions” between 1991 and 2012:
- The 1992 Women’s Federation for World Peace launch + interfaith Blessings of 1995–2001
- The 2000 Million Family March (interfaith)
- The 2005 UPF founding and Ambassadors for Peace network
- Hyung Jin Moon’s 2006–2010 era inter-traditional Cheong Pyeong / Buddhist-informed worship at Kingdom Garden
None of these are obviously “worship services transcending all denominations” in the strong sense Moon described. They are coalition gatherings, not co-created liturgies. Per meltdown-worship, BR’s own diagnosis (2010, two years before Moon’s death) is that the work is aspirational — Hendricks proposes the youth-led mechanism because the meltdown has not yet happened.
The honest reading is probably: the work was not completed in the strong sense, and BR ch 8 is an in-real-time call to finish it before the founder departs. Moon died before that completion. The post-2012 succession fracture has further fragmented the constituencies that would need to converge.
