Claim. The value of the Blessing comes from the unique vertical-horizontal junction at which it is bestowed: the meeting of the Kingdom on earth and the Kingdom in spirit-world.
Elaboration. SMM puts the providential coordinates plainly: “God’s Blessing is received where the Kingdom of Heaven on earth and the Kingdom of Heaven in the spirit world meet. It is the place where the eternal world and the corporeal world meet horizontally” (1.1. What is the Blessing?, Blessed Family 544). The Blessing is therefore both eschatologically and ontologically heavy: it can only be received once and only by those who recognize where it is being received. He warns that even single elderly women “know that they cannot go to the Kingdom of Heaven if they are not blessed” (ibid, 22-18, 1969.1.1), and that “those who receive the Blessing through True Parents will be glorified by the world” regardless of physical condition (ibid, 35-71, 1970.10.3). The value rides on the location of the event, not the spectacle of the ceremony.
