Claim. Death is not an end but the second birth — the discarding of the placenta-like physical body so the spirit can be born into the infinite realm of God’s love.
Elaboration. SMM uses the three-stage gestation analogy: “Human beings go through the stages of formation, growth, and completion. We go through the realm of water in our mother’s womb, then the realm of the planet earth, and finally the aerial realm in heaven” (2.6. Death is a process to link three worlds, 116-174, 1982.1.1). “Death leads to birth in God’s love, but in this world, people clamor in their death throes, ‘Oh, I’m dying!’ Death is the moment you can welcome the joy you feel by being able to leave the realm of limited love and enter the realm of infinite love. Therefore, the moment of death is the moment of your second birth” (ibid, 116-172, 1982.1.1). The umbilical cord that fed water-life is destroyed at birth onto earth; the body that fed earth-life is destroyed at death into the air of love. The fear of death is itself a defect: “You cannot establish a relationship with God without liberating yourself from the fear of death.”
