Claim. The family is the central model for the universe because parent-child, conjugal, and sibling relations organize all directions around one center.
Elaboration. SMM describes stable existence as requiring top and bottom, left and right, and front and back (CSG 4.3 §1, 299-114, 1999.2.7). In the family, these become parents and children, husband and wife, and brothers and sisters. The centers of these relationships must not differ; otherwise all directions become unbalanced. When they share one center, the family becomes a sphere “united in true love with God at the center.” This is why SMM can say both that each person wants to be the center of the universe and that “the family is the center of the universe.” True love equalizes the value of each position by binding them to one common core.
