Elaboration. SMM says everyone seeks love freely and happily, but that such love requires a family containing parents, husband and wife, and children (CSG 4.11 §1, 30-85, 1970.3.17). True parental, conjugal, and filial love together form the ideal family. Love’s freedom is therefore not self-direction without bonds; it is the freedom of love rightly placed within its relational structure. The family is the foundation because it gives love its first full set of object partners.
