Claim. Adam and Eve’s first love should have bonded parental, conjugal, and children’s love to God at the root, but the Fall misdirected first love.

Elaboration. SMM says first love occupies everything and identifies God as “the subject partner of love” (CSG 4.6 §6, Blessed Family 361). Originally, Adam and Eve were to have their first love with God. Instead, Eve loved the archangel, and that misdirected first love became the Fall. The restoration problem is severe because the original first love would have included all forms of love at once: “parental love as the first love, the conjugal love as the first love, and the children’s love as the first love” all rooted firmly in God (Blessed Family 373). The Fall fractured those loves into a long historical restoration course.
