Claim. Because Jesus did not form a family on earth, he could not enter heaven and instead waits in paradise — a preparatory waiting room — and must come again to fulfill the family ideal.
Elaboration. SMM grounds the claim in the family-only-entry rule: “Heaven can only be entered as a family. You cannot enter heaven by yourself. Since Jesus did not form a family, he was unable to enter heaven and is waiting in paradise, which is the waiting room for heaven” (2.4. Jesus and paradise, 143-25, 1986.3.15). The argument extends to other founders: “Jesus was single and did not live a married life. What about the great sages such as Confucius or Buddha? Or the kings? They are living single lives in the spirit world, without an ideal partner, since they were descendants of the realm of the archangel” (ibid, 296-191, 1998.11.9). The doctrinal stake is high — it negates faith-alone soteriology: “Christians today think that they are saved and will go to heaven by believing in Jesus … In the future, religion should not teach just about individual salvation” (ibid, 41-341, 1971.2.18). Heaven remains empty until True Parents establish the family pattern Jesus could not complete.
