Elaboration. SMM recalls trying as a child to make two birds kiss in a cage and later realizing “love is realized only in a natural setting” (CSG 4.5 §7, Blessed Family 353). He contrasts deep, earthy love with “instant food” love that is easily obtained and easily forgotten. The partner is not a manufactured experience but part of loving the surrounding universe. When man and woman meet “on the basis of the ideal of partnership,” their relationship does not violate love’s order. This makes naturalness a theological criterion: love must arise in the right atmosphere, with the right partner relation, and with the depth that resists commodification.
