Claim. Marriage qualifies people for the Kingdom of Heaven by training them to love a spouse as God’s and humanity’s representative.

Elaboration. SMM says man and woman marry to enter a “three-dimensional realm of love,” because neither can contact God’s higher love alone (CSG 4.6 §2, 109-273, 1980.11.2). He then states the eschatological claim: “Marriage allows us to go to the Kingdom of Heaven” (88-316, 1976.10.3). The qualification is resemblance to God: one must make God’s love one’s own and love humanity with God. Thus a man must love his wife as God’s daughter and humanity’s daughter; a woman must love her husband as God’s son and humanity’s representative. Marriage is for the Kingdom and for humankind, not merely for private fulfillment.
