Claim. Religious life only reaches its purpose when it produces a sovereign nation of goodness on earth — without a nation, even Jesus could not stand before God, and believers cannot escape persecution.
Elaboration. “If we do not have our own nation, then, however happy our family may feel, at any moment a group of brigands can appear in front of us and cut off our heads. Thus, we must establish our nation. Religious people do not understand this … We must establish a nation of goodness. This is the purpose of religion” (1.2. The nation we all desire, 57-260, 1972.6.4). Jesus is positioned as the proof case: “Jesus was blocked from standing before God’s throne. Until the sovereignty of God’s Kingdom is established Jesus could not reign over it as ruler” (ibid, 56-201, 1972.5.14). Persecuted religious history is read as deficiency: “religious believers were persecuted wherever they went … because they did not have their own nation.” The implication: SMM rejects an apolitical or otherworldly Christianity — restoration requires sovereignty, citizenry, and territory, not merely an inward devotion.
