Claim. The “hometown” toward which the providence aims is not the believer’s birth-village in this fallen world but the original-creation world — a boundary-less, language-less, race-less heavenly nation that is the substantial form of the purpose of creation.
Elaboration. SMM names the hometown’s ideal-creation form: “The place we want to live in is the heavenly nation. We want to live in the heavenly nation. Are there borders in the heavenly nation? There are not. Are there two languages in the heavenly nation? No. Are there racial differences? No, there are none. Then, what is the heavenly nation? Since human beings are all born in God’s bosom, all humankind are brothers and sisters” (6.1. Hometown is a world of the original creation, 66-281, 1973.5.16). The Unification Church’s ideology has to match this trans-national form: “In order to love the world we will have to abandon even our nation. Furthermore, in order to love heaven, let us abandon even the world. It is the main teaching of the Unification Church to seek the path of love where we sacrifice things that are small and close to us for the sake of things that are big and far away” (ibid, 100-80, 1978.10.8). The hometown is therefore a direction (toward the trans-national heavenly nation) substantiated in the particular biological hometown that the tribal messiah returns to and engrafts. Both meanings hold simultaneously.
