Claim. What Asian traditions describe as reincarnation is actually the principle of returning resurrection: a single spirit (e.g., Paul) cooperates successively with different earthly persons across ages as they fail to indemnify, producing phenomena that look like the same soul reincarnated.

Elaboration. SMM rejects reincarnation but accounts for its appearance: “In Asia people talk not about the principle of rebirth but about the theory of reincarnation, which is a Buddhist idea. They view returning resurrection as such a phenomenon, because they just see it as a single instance. They do not see the whole picture… Suppose the spirit person is Paul. If A, through whom he returns in an attempt to ascend through each stage over the ages, fails to indemnify within that period and dies, Paul returns through B and helps him and ascends… So eventually, Paul will have returned through C… Looking only at such a phenomenon, people call it reincarnation” (5.5. Returning resurrection and rebirth, 54-277, 1972.3.24). The Unification Principle of Resurrection therefore “conforms exactly to the realities of the spirit world” while not endorsing transmigration of souls. A specific spirit cooperates through multiple earthly partners; the partners are not previous incarnations of the spirit.
