Claim. The portion of responsibility encompasses ordinary rules of conduct — church attendance, punctuality, household upkeep — so that mundane discipline is a load-bearing element of the doctrine, not a separable etiquette.
Elaboration. SMM extends responsibility-doctrine into everyday behavior: “The rules of the church are all aspects of our portion of responsibility. Thus, we must diligently keep the time for church service. We must arrive before the service begins, and must fully concentrate during its course… I had to learn to control the use of time. So, my thinking was quite mathematical” (5.1. Our portion of responsibility, 133-154, 1984.7.10). The mundane domain is explicit: “Our portion of responsibility is found everywhere. If you eat, then cleaning up is also our portion of responsibility. There are many responsibilities. The one who can fulfill a greater portion of responsibility is a great person” (ibid). The cosmic responsibility-doctrine and ordinary household ethics are therefore continuous — no two-tier sacred/secular split.
