Claim. The Fall replaced God as humanity’s father with Satan — a real spiritual being, not a conceptual abstraction — through an “adulterous” relationship in the first human family, leaving humanity descended from a false father.
Elaboration. SMM cites two New Testament texts as confirming evidence. The first names Satan as humanity’s father: “Adam and Eve, who should have attended God as their father, fell, and as a result they started attending Satan, the devil, as their father” (1.1. Satan, the devil, is our father, 74-140, 1974.11.28), citing John 8:44 (“you are of your father the devil”). The second names humans only as adopted children: he quotes Romans 8:23 — “but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the spirit, groan inwardly, as we wait for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies” — and concludes “An adopted child has a lineage different from that of his foster parents. This is the reality of human beings” (ibid, 53-261, 1972.3.1). On SMM’s reading, Christianity’s adoption language is itself the inadvertent admission that lineage was lost. The Fall was therefore a lineage-substitution event, and Satan a real spiritual ringleader.
