Claim. Heaven’s law dictates that human beings were born for the sake of others, so the true-love path is paved by dedication, service, and sacrifice — the same re-creation activity by which God invested Himself into the world.
Elaboration. SMM names the path explicitly: “How can the path of true love be paved? It can be paved through dedication, service, and sacrifice. This means it is the course of re-creation… Only when we go along the path of indemnity can we stand on God’s side” (8.2. Service and dedication, 146-294, 1986.7.20). The criterion is binary: “When God looks down on this world, He sees two sides in constant struggle… ‘The people on my side are those who stand in a position of constant sacrifice, commitment, and service’” (ibid, 147-98, 1986.8.31). The Unification distillation is doctrinal: “The Unification Church teaches the heavenly law that dictates that we were born for the sake of others and we must follow the path of living for the sake of others” (ibid, 133-16, 1984.7.1). Sacrifice has a sociological consequence — “the higher a religion is, the more it emphasizes sacrifice and service” (ibid, 77-270, 1975.4.14) — and a self-centered life is evidence that “God is already leaving you” (ibid, 32-21, 1970.6.14). Service is not ethical addition but ontological alignment with the universe’s law.
