Claim. Fallen humans are wild olive trees who must be engrafted onto True Parents as the true olive tree; religion’s purpose is to perform this engrafting, which culminates in the marriage feast of the bride and bridegroom on earth.
Elaboration. Moon uses Romans 11’s wild-olive imagery to frame UC soteriology: “Since you are wild olive trees, you need to receive a branch of the true olive tree and be engrafted with it. Religions are meant to do the work of engrafting. This is Christian thought. This is why it is said that the marriage feast of the bride and bridegroom must occur on earth” (3.2. We are a branch engrafted to True Parents).
The exegetical move repurposes Paul’s olive-tree metaphor: where Paul uses it to discuss Gentile inclusion in the covenant alongside Israel (Romans 11:17-24), Moon uses it to describe lineage-transfer from Satan to True Parents. The “true olive tree” is no longer Israel/the Abrahamic covenant but the True Parents themselves. This is a substantial re-reading — the same image, different referent.
The second passage elaborates the historical mechanism: “This world used to be a wild olive tree in the satanic world, but God has turned it into a heavenly olive tree. God made Christianity in the democratic world be a wild olive tree on the heavenly side, so it could lead the world. When the satanic world weakens and the Christian cultural realm is established, the Lord will come at his Second Advent, cut them off all at once, engraft them completely, make them one, and turn them around.” Christianity has prepared a heavenly-side wild olive that the returning Lord can rapidly engraft en masse.
The third passage adds the family-tree metaphor: branches multiply by being cut and planted (tribal messiahs), and the central root grows in proportion to branch growth — vertical and horizontal expansion are coupled.
The terminus is the marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19), which Moon insists must occur “on earth” — not as eschatological symbol but as actual matrimonial event between the True Parental couple, which is then extended through the Blessing. This is consistent with UC’s literal/substantial hermeneutic: heavenly weddings must occur in physical history.
Critics (evangelical, exegetical) typically engage on the olive-tree re-reading and the literalization of the marriage supper. Worth a thread once counter atomics on Pauline ecclesiology exist.
