Claim. The conscience is our ‘second God’; consulting it constantly is how we check with God and how it grows stronger.
Elaboration. Asking what we must do if everything depends on us, the pastor relays Holy Mother Han’s answer: ‘awaken our conscience. Our conscience is our second God’ (Transcript, 64:07–64:14). The practice is continuous: ‘If we’re constantly checking with our conscience, that’s checking with God, and it’ll get stronger’ (ibid, 64:16–64:21). She models it as small, hourly questions — ‘Is this the right thing to do with my time? … Is there something else I ought to be doing?’ (ibid, 64:43–64:58) — and names this the fix for getting ‘too caught up in my work … and not remembering God’ (ibid, 64:22–64:33).
Significance. Conscience is treated as the always-available interface to God: awakening and obeying it, moment by moment, is the concrete form of the believer’s responsibility.
