Claim. True Parents are absolutely necessary for three reasons — completing restoration through indemnity, becoming one in true love, and receiving rebirth based on the change of lineage.
Elaboration. This is a load-bearing summary statement. Moon enumerates: “We absolutely need True Parents for three reasons — to complete restoration through indemnity, to become one in true love, and to receive rebirth based on the change of lineage” (3.1. We absolutely need True Parents). Each reason names a function that, on UC theology, cannot occur without an actually-present substantial parental couple.
(1) indemnity: restoration requires substantial conditions, not merely faith or imputation. True Parents pay the load-bearing indemnity conditions that no individual believer can bear alone — they “inherit their foundation based on the standard of having become one in love.”
(2) True love: oneness in true love is not psychological but ontological — the unification of vertical (God) and horizontal (Parents) love-axes requires the horizontal pole to be substantially present in history. Without True Parents, true love has no horizontal exemplar to imitate or inherit from.
(3) Rebirth through change of lineage: this is the most distinctive UC innovation. Salvation is not forensic justification but a literal change of blood/lineage — from the satanic lineage inherited through the Fall to God’s lineage. This requires an act (the Blessing) performed by parents who themselves stand outside the satanic lineage. No deceased messianic figure can perform this; the change must occur on earth, in the flesh, mediated by a living couple.
Moon prefaces this with a moral self-portrait: while in prison he founded six organizations “to save America,” giving love rather than seeking revenge. The implicit argument: True Parents demonstrate the love-criterion by not retaliating against persecutors, which differentiates them from secular and counterfeit parents.
This tripartite formulation is useful as a counter-handle against the soteriological reduction common in secondary literature (“UC believes Moon is the second Messiah”). The actual claim is functional: the three operations require an embodied parental couple, full stop. Evangelical critics typically engage on (3) — whether lineage-change is biblically warranted or whether it displaces the cross. Worth a thread once a counter atomic on substitutionary atonement exists.
