Claim. Moon explicitly states that True Parents currently function as True Parents only at the UC-internal level — they have not yet reached the national or world level — so Satan continues to operate freely at those higher levels, and the UC mission is to expand True Parents’ jurisdiction outward through the church’s growth.
Elaboration. Moon makes the scope-limitation claim directly: “Our Unification Church has True Parents, but in what position are they? They are True Parents only in the Unification Church, and have not reached the national or world level. Thus, Satan still remains on the national and the world level and is firing his guns. This is why our Unification Church is battling so that our movement expands to the nation, world, and spirit world the capacity of the True Parents that is now limited to the church” (5.2. Our mission, 124-309, 1983.3.1).
This is a strikingly modest claim that complicates the more triumphalist statements elsewhere in the same chapter. The True Parents’ work is real but jurisdictionally partial: members within the UC live under True Parents’ headship; everyone outside still lives under satanic dominion. The expansion of True Parents’ jurisdiction tracks the expansion of the UC’s evangelical and political reach, not just spiritual reality.
The “True Parents have not reached the national level” framing has two consequences. (1) Eschatologically, the kingdom is not yet — it is realized only within UC, anticipated for nation and world. (2) Strategically, evangelism becomes inseparable from providential work: every additional convert literally extends the territory under True Parents’ authority. The UC is a redemptive movement of territorial expansion, not just spiritual influence.
Moon adds another mission-framing: “In the future, we must prepare a foundation to attend True Parents and assemble the brothers and sisters of the world before them. We are the ancestors with this responsibility. Therefore let us remove the path of the cross and persecution that may befall our descendants. This is our original mission” (20-135, 1968.5.1). The current generation bears suffering specifically to remove it from descendants — sacrificial logic with eschatological time-horizons.
The temporal qualifier matters too: “The time is now approaching. The environment in which True Parents can be welcomed as national parents is at hand.” The not-yet has a then-stage. Moon does not propose that True Parents’ jurisdiction is eternally bounded by UC — only that it currently is, with imminent expansion expected.
This atomic functions as a counterweight to the over-realized readings of UC eschatology. It also surfaces an internal tension: if True Parents are providentially “the central point that determines the center of the universe” (§1.2) and yet currently operate only at UC-internal scale, then the cosmic claim and the jurisdictional claim are in unresolved tension. Members must hold both.
Critics (evangelical, sociology) typically engage on the territorial-expansion-equals-providential-expansion identification. Worth a thread once counter atomics on territorial eschatology exist.
