Claim. Moon frames North Korea’s cult of Kim Il-sung as the satanic counterfeit “parent” opposing the True Parents, requiring humanity to publicly judge between them — a judgment in which God’s side and Satan’s side are at stake.
Elaboration. Moon explicitly names the rival: “In North Korea, they call Kim Il-sung Father, and in the Unification Church you also call me Father. But the father of the Unification Church and the father of North Korea are qualitatively different. They are confronting each other” (Section 2. The Value of Working with True Parents while They are on Earth). The cosmic conflict — God versus Satan, each claiming a parent — is mapped onto the Korean peninsula’s actual political division.
Moon assigns judgment to humans: “Human beings should choose their parents.” The criterion he supplies is teleological: “Since it is God, not Satan, who has been seeking good parents, God is the father of the good parents.” The argument is circular as stated — God seeks good parents, therefore the parents God recognizes are good — but the deeper logic is that fruits will reveal the source.
The framing has explicit anti-communist political content. Juche’s deification of Kim Il-sung is read not as misguided political theology but as satanic counterfeiting of the genuine parental providence. This is consistent with Moon’s broader Cold War theology where communism is the satanic side of the world-providence — connecting to the Washington Times founding and the Federation for World Peace work referenced later in this chapter.
The time-window claim sharpens the urgency: “the one appearance of the Parents of humankind is the desire of history… the time of their appearance is an unprecedented and unrepeatable time. It is the pinnacle that comes only once in history.” Missing it produces eternal regret; the opportunity cannot be bought with money, knowledge, or world-burden.
Critics (apologetic, ex-member, comparative-religion) typically engage on the symmetry: both Kim Il-sung’s regime and Moon’s movement use parental titles for a charismatic founder. Moon’s response is the moral-fruits criterion — UC parents must “have nothing to do with evil” and must mourn over even miserable children. Worth a thread once counter atomics on charismatic-leadership patterns exist.
