Claim. Unification Thought grounds the possibility of true cognition in the claim that human being and all things were created in a necessary subject-object relationship — the human as lord of dominion, all things as objects of joy, beauty, and dominion — analogous to the motor and working parts in a machine, each meaningless without the other.
Elaboration. The argument is that prior epistemologies failed because they could not explain why cognition should succeed at all. If subject and object are merely accidental to each other (as in atheistic or naturalistic generation accounts), there is no reason their categories should match reality. Lee writes: ‘From an atheistic position, the necessary relationship between human beings and nature can not be established. Even in the theory of the natural generation of the universe, human beings and nature are no more than accidental beings to each other’ (1. The Origin of Cognition).
The motor-and-working-parts analogy is doing real work: a motor without working parts has nothing to drive; working parts without a motor are inert. Their fittedness is not coincidence but design. By analogy, human cognitive faculties and the structure of nature are mutually fitted because both were created in a relationship of purpose-of-creation — humans to exercise dominion (cultivating, raising, processing, making use of) and to take joy, all things to be the field of that dominion and source of that joy.
The consequence Lee draws: cognition involves both ‘experience’ (because we engage actual objects) AND ‘reason’ (because judgment processes that engagement), and both are indispensable. The empiricism/rationalism split dissolves once the subject-object pair is understood as principled rather than accidental. Furthermore, ‘since the human being and all things are in the relationship of subject and object, we can know all things fully and correctly’ — a strong anti-agnostic claim that directly opposes Kant’s thing-in-itself doctrine.
The move collides with naturalist epistemologies that ground cognitive reliability in evolutionary fitness rather than created teleology. Worth a thread once a counter atomic exists on whether design-grounded reliability and selection-grounded reliability are functionally distinguishable.
