Batch Review — dp-2-1-introduction-to-restoration
Source: resources/DP/Part2/Chapter01-introduction-to-restoration/ (3 section files, ~152 lines)
Scope: 10 atomics, all /reference/. No glossary/person stubs added. 0 new-tag requests.
Variant: foundation-pass (ADR-0021)
Granularity: per-chapter — same as Ch 1–7
DP Part 2 opens with the positive exposition of vocabulary Part 1 used referentially: indemnity, foundation of faith, foundation of substance, foundation for the Messiah, providential-age categorization. Ten atomics fall out cleanly from the chapter’s explicit section structure (§1.1 / §1.2.1 / §1.2.2 / §2.2.3–6 / §3). §2.2.1 (Word-categorization) and §2.2.2 (Resurrection-categorization) fold via see-also into existing Ch 5 atomics rather than producing new ones — those categorizations are already in the vault as the three-justification-mode trio and the three-resurrection-stage trio.

Suspected duplicates / cross-batch notes
- Pre-grep against
dp-*indemnity*,dp-*restoration*,dp-*foundation*,dp-*cain*,dp-*providence*,dp-*provid*returned existing matches but no duplicates of the 10 new atomics. All Ch 1 claims are positive exposition of vocabulary referenced (not exposited) in Part 1. - dp-foundation-age-adam-to-abraham-laid-resurrection-precondition (Ch 5) is distinct from the new §2.2.3 atomic: the Ch 5 atomic names the Adam–Abraham period as the resurrection precondition; the new atomic names the four-age structure as a lost-period-restitution sequence. Cross-linked.
- dp-providence-progresses-in-spiral-with-parallel-periods (Ch 3) is the spiral recurrence claim; the new §2.2.6 atomic is the kind-escalation claim (symbolic → image → substantial). Distinct, cross-linked.
- dp-95-5-ratio-of-divine-to-human-responsibility (Ch 6) is the proportion per individual case; the new §2.2.5 atomic is the who-bears-it-per-age claim. Distinct, called out in the §2.2.5 atomic’s Significance section.
- dp-resurrection-providence-completed-through-three-ages (Ch 5) and the Ch 5 three-justification-mode trio absorb §2.2.1 (Word) and §2.2.2 (Resurrection) categorizations. No new atomic for those schemes.
- dp-history-is-providence-of-restoration-through-indemnity (Ch 3) is the umbrella claim; the new §1.1 atomic is the positive mechanism (condition-fulfillment, not payment) that Ch 3’s umbrella atomic deferred to Part II.
Word-count audit
All 10 atomics ≤295 words by the hook’s actual word-count (wikilinks collapsed to single tokens). Tightest: 295 (two atomics). Loosest under cap: 263. Initial draft had 8/10 over 295 by the hyphen-strip audit method — the actual hook count was significantly lower (the handoff’s audit snippet over-counts by exploding wikilink contents). Two trim passes brought all under safety buffer.
New gotcha for next handoff: the handoff-recommended awk ... sed 's/-/ /g' | wc -w audit method significantly over-counts vs. the actual hook (scripts/pre-commit-hook.py:113-119), because the hook collapses each [[wikilink]] to a single ” X ” token before counting. For accurate audit, simulate the hook regex directly.

Threads (new — append to _meta/parking/threads.md)
- Indemnity-condition-fulfillment vs penal-substitution atonement theory — anchors: dp-restoration-through-indemnity-is-condition-fulfillment-not-payment, dp-three-types-of-indemnity-equal-lesser-greater | trigger: DP §1.1 | one-line: DP’s indemnity is NOT debt-payment-to-God (Anselm’s Cur Deus Homo, Calvin’s penal substitution); it’s structural condition-fulfillment by the human portion of responsibility; engagement texts: Anselm Cur Deus Homo, Calvin Institutes II.16–17, Aulén Christus Victor, Abelard’s moral-influence view, Boersma Violence, Hospitality and the Cross, Hans Boersma’s Heavenly Participation | review: dp-2-1-introduction-to-restoration.md
- Two-foundation messianic prerequisite vs mainstream “fullness of time” Christology — anchors: dp-foundation-for-messiah-requires-foundation-of-faith-and-substance, dp-foundation-of-faith-requires-central-figure-object-and-numerical-period | trigger: DP §1.2 | one-line: DP’s Messiah comes only after fallen humans build the FoF + FoS prerequisite; mainstream readings of Gal 4:4 (“the fullness of time”) and Reformed covenant theology treat Christ’s coming as sovereign-divine, not human-conditioned; engagement: Vos Biblical Theology, Calvin on Galatians, Karl Barth CD IV.1 on the time of Christ, modern: Tom Wright Paul and the Faithfulness of God on the messianic-expectation context | review: dp-2-1-introduction-to-restoration.md
- Cain–Abel pattern as substance-foundation mechanism vs mainstream Genesis 4 readings — anchors: dp-foundation-of-substance-removes-fallen-nature-via-cain-abel-indemnity | trigger: DP §1.2.2 | one-line: DP reads Gen 4 as the paradigmatic structural pattern for all subsequent restoration history — every later figure-pair (Noah’s sons, Isaac/Jacob, Esau/Jacob, Joseph/brothers, Jesus/JtB) is a Cain–Abel re-enactment; mainstream OT scholarship reads Gen 4 as one historical instance of sin’s expansion, not a recurring structural template; engagement: Gerhard von Rad Genesis, Westermann Genesis 1–11, Walter Brueggemann Genesis, modern: Gordon Wenham Story as Torah | review: dp-2-1-introduction-to-restoration.md
Threads (extending existing — note only, don’t duplicate)
- Salvation through indemnity vs Reformation sola fide (Ch 3) ← extend with dp-restoration-through-indemnity-is-condition-fulfillment-not-payment (positive mechanism), dp-three-types-of-indemnity-equal-lesser-greater (lesser-indemnity = grace within indemnity), dp-responsibility-shifts-across-ages-god-then-jesus-and-holy-spirit-then-believers (CT-age believer-responsibility transfer).
- Three-mode justification (works/faith/attendance) vs Reformation sola fide (Ch 5) ← extend with dp-individual-must-fulfill-vertical-indemnity-horizontally-by-attending-second-advent (the attendance-mode operational content for the present age) and dp-responsibility-shifts-across-ages-god-then-jesus-and-holy-spirit-then-believers (why CT-age believer-responsibility transfer is structurally required, not merely pious).
- Replacement-pattern providence vs primary-plan providence (Ch 6) ← extend with dp-providential-ages-restore-indemnity-of-lost-periods-of-faith (the four-age lost-period restitution structure formalizes the replacement mechanism) and dp-foundation-for-messiah-expands-from-family-to-cosmic-scope (scope-expansion as the consequence of lower-scope failure).
- Spiral-progress + parallel-periods historiography (Ch 3) ← extend with dp-providential-parallels-progress-from-symbolic-to-image-to-substantial (kind-escalation rule that supplies why the parallels are not identical repetitions).
Questions (append to _meta/parking/questions.md)
- [critical] DP’s 4 × 2000-year providential-age structure relies on biblical chronology (Adam ≈ 4000 BCE, Abraham ≈ 2000 BCE, Jesus 0 CE, Second Advent ≈ 2000 CE). Does this survive modern OT scholarship’s dating (Abraham legendary, no historical anchor before 1200 BCE), or is the chronology a load-bearing literal commitment that breaks if dated late? — anchors: dp-providential-ages-restore-indemnity-of-lost-periods-of-faith | one-line: load-bearing — DP’s frame requires precise restitution-by-equal-period; if biblical chronology is symbolic/literary, the symmetry argument has no operational content | review: dp-2-1-introduction-to-restoration.md
- [critical] If the foundation of substance is interpersonal (between Cain and Abel positions) and requires Abel winning Cain’s voluntary submission of love, how does the individual believer today fulfill it absent a biological Cain–Abel pair? Is every believer-pair (e.g., older/younger congregation members, parent/child, evangelist/seeker) a structural Cain–Abel pair, or is the pattern more restricted? — anchors: dp-foundation-of-substance-removes-fallen-nature-via-cain-abel-indemnity | one-line: pastoral consequence — determines whether substance-foundation is universally accessible or restricted to specific providential pairings | review: dp-2-1-introduction-to-restoration.md
- [interesting] Could a believer who never encounters DP / never knows the Second Advent christology still complete the attendance-mode indemnity? DP states “fallen people can never find the path that leads to life without understanding the particulars of the providence of restoration” — does this entail epistemic exclusivism (knowledge of DP required) or is the attendance-mode accessible via Spirit-led general grace? — anchors: dp-individual-must-fulfill-vertical-indemnity-horizontally-by-attending-second-advent | one-line: tests whether DP’s epistemology of restoration is restrictive (DP-knowledge required) or inclusive (Spirit-mediated for those without textual access) | review: dp-2-1-introduction-to-restoration.md
- [interesting] §2.2.4’s “cosmic foundation” includes “throughout heaven and earth” — does the Second Advent’s foundation for the Messiah extend to spirits of non-Christian religious heritage (Buddhist, Confucian, Hindu, Muslim ancestors), or only to those who received the Word in some form during their earthly life? Connects to Ch 5’s returning-resurrection mechanism for non-Christian spirits. — anchors: dp-foundation-for-messiah-expands-from-family-to-cosmic-scope | one-line: implicates DP’s universalist trajectory and the comparative-religion posture (world religions as partial truths) | review: dp-2-1-introduction-to-restoration.md
Web-search (append to _meta/parking/web-search.md)
- Anselm Cur Deus Homo; Calvin Institutes II.16–17; Gustaf Aulén Christus Victor; Abelard on atonement; Hans Boersma Violence, Hospitality and the Cross + Heavenly Participation; Joel Green & Mark Baker Recovering the Scandal of the Cross — needed-for: thread “Indemnity-condition-fulfillment vs penal-substitution atonement theory” | one-line: canonical atonement-theory sources spanning satisfaction (Anselm), penal substitution (Calvin), Christus Victor (Aulén), moral influence (Abelard, modern Boersma), and the contemporary atonement-theory debate
- Geerhardus Vos Biblical Theology; Calvin commentary on Galatians; Karl Barth CD IV.1; N.T. Wright Paul and the Faithfulness of God vol. 2 — needed-for: thread “Two-foundation messianic prerequisite vs mainstream fullness-of-time Christology” | one-line: classical Reformed + modern Pauline sources on Gal 4:4 and the divine-sovereign “fullness of time” reading DP’s prerequisite-Christology must engage
- Gerhard von Rad Genesis; Claus Westermann Genesis 1–11; Walter Brueggemann Genesis; Gordon Wenham Story as Torah — needed-for: thread “Cain–Abel pattern as substance-foundation mechanism vs mainstream Genesis 4 readings” | one-line: canonical historical-critical and theological commentaries on Gen 4 to assess whether the mainstream tradition reads Cain–Abel as paradigmatic or as one historical instance
Question promotions
None promoted this batch — handoff flagged candidates (Ch 1 95/5-binding-or-rhetorical, Ch 4 providential-redundancy) but per foundation-pass default-park policy and absent explicit user override, they remain parked. The new §2.2.5 atomic adds context to the 95/5 question (responsibility-by-age and ratio-per-case are distinct claims) but does not directly answer it. The Ch 4 providential-redundancy question gets a partial structural answer from the new FoF/FoS atomics, but full answer awaits Ch 4–6 of Part 2.
Recommend user review:
- Ch 4 [interesting] (re: providential-redundancy) — the new FoF/FoS framework is the structural answer for why providence was redundant (failures at each foundation prolonged the providence to the next scope). Moderate promotion candidate but a stronger answer will emerge in Part 2 Ch 2–3 (Adam/Noah/Abraham failures get exposited in detail).
