Hendricks coins the term “populist” for his ecclesiology by importing the English political-science word (defined via Encarta dictionary, footnote [^1] in thesis-apply-reverend-moons-thought-to-church-growth). Is there an existing Korean UC term — used by Sun Myung Moon, in Cheon Seong Gyeong, or in Korean UC pastoral literature — that maps to this concept?
Why it matters. If a native Korean term exists, the “populist” framing is a translation choice, and the underlying concept is older than Hendricks’s 2010 articulation. If no native term exists, “populist” is a new framing Hendricks is introducing into UC discourse — useful, but importing the political-science freight of the English word along with it.
Current best guesses. Plausible candidates worth checking once CSG (Korean) or Korean-source materials are ingested: terms around 평신도 (laity), 가정교회 (home church — already a UC term), 민중 (the people / masses, a politically loaded term in Korean Christianity esp. with Minjung theology). The absence of a native term would itself be informative.
