Elaboration. SMM describes the escalation explicitly: “Now we are entering the age of the nation … There will be Blessings for up to 120 generations of ancestors. In the past it was four generations” (4.2. The Cheongpyeong providence and the ancestors’ liberation ceremony, 299-307, 1999.2.21). The sequence: “You have to liberate the first seven generations. Only after liberating seven can you continue and go on to fulfill 120 generations’ liberation” (ibid, 301-205, 1999.4.26). The mechanism uses Cheongpyeong as the site: “All Blessed Families should compete with one another in liberating their ancestors, and they have the responsibility to open the door of the Blessing to them” (ibid, 299-307). The ceremonies are coordinated with Heung-jin and Dae-mo nim in the spirit-world: “I commanded Heung-jin and Dae-mo nim to be willing to do desperate things for the ancestors’ Blessings” (ibid, 298-165, 1999.1.1). The doctrinal innovation locates retroactive blessing across the death boundary as descendant-mediated, conducted at a specific physical site.
