SMM extends the dual-characteristics structure even below amoebae: “Even in the world of germs, which can only be perceived when magnified hundreds of thousands or even millions of times, we can find conjugality” (ibid, 223-355, 1991.11.20). The implication is that the pair structure is not an evolved adaptation but the precondition of any reproduction-driven development whatsoever. SMM frames this as a culture-war stake: evolutionary materialism, by denying love-prior-to-matter, became the philosophical engine of atheistic communism.
