Claim. The mainstream ideology of Cheon Il Guk is “one heart, one body, one mindset” — loving God, loving humanity, loving one’s nation — extended without change of essence into “one harmony” (Il hwa).
Elaboration. SMM defines the slogan layer by layer: “It is one heart, one body and one mindset: one heart stands for loving God. In short, we are asked to love Heaven. One body stands for loving humanity… One mindset stands for loving one’s nation, which is the expanded version of the family” (CSG 15.4 §5, 381-106, 2002.6.11). On the harmony character: “The character hwa in the word Il hwa (一和) (one harmony) does not signify having to change essentially in order to harmonize. Whether man or woman, they should harmonize without changing… harmonizing without going through any changes rather than harmonizing at the cost of changes in essence is more highly valued” (173-241, 1988.2.21). The doctrinal point is precise: unity of Cheon Il Guk preserves the distinctness of its parts rather than dissolving them into a common essence. The slogan is therefore close to four-position-foundation in spirit but expressed in everyday-prayer terms.
