Elaboration. SMM says even fallen parents want their children to become people praised eternally and seek to protect them “day and night” (CSG 4.8 §1, 20-209, 1968.6.9). If fallen parents have such a heart, he asks, how earnest must God’s heart have been toward Adam and Eve? Parental love also refuses bookkeeping: parents do not keep accounts of shoes and clothing but “give and yet feel that it is not enough” (60-82, 1972.8.6). This essence of parental love connects human beings to eternal love. God is likewise the being who wants to give all His precious attributes to those who truly become His children.
