Claim. Indemnity for sin can only be paid on earth; the spirit-world has no mechanism to remove sins, so what is bound on earth must be released on earth.
Elaboration. SMM’s strongest formulation makes the spirit world structurally incapable of further atonement: “There is no payment of indemnity in the spirit world. It is a liberated realm of perfection filled with the waves of love, so the possibility of indemnity or re-creation does not exist” (3.5. Sins committed in the flesh should be indemnified on earth, 229-243, 1992.4.12). The mechanism is missing: “In the spirit world, there is nothing to stimulate this process to take place. There is no such mechanism” (ibid, 242-305, 1993.1.2). Even the Bible’s “what is bound on earth is bound in heaven” is read this way (ibid, 229-27, 1992.4.9). Consequences are heavy: “If you pass to the spirit world without overcoming this in your lifetime, there is no way to know how many millions of years it will take you” (ibid, 229-243). The doctrinal implication is that earthly habits, sins, and unresolved conflicts get locked in at death; therefore the blessing and lineage-change ceremony must be received in this lifetime.
