Claim. In the spirit world the closest relationship is the vertical parent-child line traced all the way up to God as the original Grandfather; horizontal friendships are secondary.
Elaboration. SMM gives a striking reordering: “Which relationship is closer in this world: between parent and child, or between siblings? Since the parent-child relationship is closer, even after you pass to the spirit world, you will be closest to your parents, then to your grandparents and then to your great-grandparents, and then your great-great-grandparents above them. When you trace the vertical line all the way up, who is the last grandparent? He is, indeed, God” (3.7. Human relationships in the spirit world, 21-248, 1968.11.24). One’s earthly father and grandfather become brothers there; everyone calls God Father. Property inheritance reverses too: “in the spirit world… all people in the spirit world have to become descendants of the direct male line, God does not have to divide His assets among them. Once all siblings become one, what is your elder brother’s is simultaneously yours.” Vertical unity converts limited inheritance into universal joint possession.
