Claim. True husband-wife love grows fresher through repeated longing rather than being exhausted by familiarity.

Elaboration. SMM says happiness requires stimulation, just as meals taste fresh when hunger returns; likewise “the love between husband and wife should be always new and fresh” (CSG 4.7 §5, 23-57, 1969.5.11). The sign is that the more spouses see each other, the more they desire to see each other again. This love is unlike food, whose pleasure stops when one is full. A beloved can be seen repeatedly and still be desired “yet again.” SMM also treats whispered words between spouses as a power that dissolves fatigue and hatred in the world. Love’s renewal is therefore a daily liturgy of longing, not a one-time emotional peak.
