Elaboration. §3.1 (and elaborated in §3.2.1) introduces a geometric metaphor SMM uses as a logical proof. “An awakening like a flashing thunderbolt came to me: that true love passes through the shortest route. That one realization solved everything. If heaven and earth were connected through true love, it would be through the shortest distance. In other words, there is only one perpendicular. It is always at ninety degrees to the horizontal” (3.1. The point of settlement of love where God and humankind meet, 250-153, 1993.10.14). The corollary is religious-architectural: there is only one settlement point where God meets humans, the marriage of a fully matured Adam and Eve at right angles to God’s vertical descent. Because love is geometrically constrained to one shortest path, multiple “loves” or competing love-paths cannot coexist as true. The implication is that conjugal love, when fully ordered, is the unique site of the divine-human meeting — not the inner heart, not the temple, not prayer alone.
