Claim. Filial piety is not bounded by the family; it scales outward through nation and world to become “filial piety to heaven and earth”, with anything short of that scope having “no value”.

Elaboration. SMM links the family-level virtue to ever-wider domains: “A nation’s loyal patriots are its children of filial piety. Who are the loyal patriots on the world level? The world’s saints are its children of filial piety. Who is a holy child of heaven and earth? Such a person is a devoted child of heaven and earth” (CSG 14.1 §1, 280-107, 1996.11.11). The judgment is stark: “Apart from this context, the concepts of a filial child or son have no value.” The family is the training ground, but the virtue is not allowed to settle there. True Parents occupy the position that connects family-scale filial piety to the heavenly-scale virtue, which is why attendance to them is presented as the link between local Korean piety and the world’s providential restoration.
