Claim. The Messiah must come as the horizontal True Parent — not as God Himself — because lineage corrupted at the Adam level can only be repaired by an unfallen Adam who weds, fathers, and engrafts a new root.
Elaboration. SMM corrects the classical Christology of Messiah-as-God: “The Messiah must come to this earth in the position of the True Parents… Christians say that the Messiah is God and God is the Messiah, but this is wrong. God is the vertical True Parent. He is only one. The Messiah is the horizontal True Parent” (6.1. True Parents are needed as the Messiah, 186-40, 1989.1.24). The work is irreducibly lineal: “Since human beings received the satanic blood, people cannot return to God by themselves. So the Messiah must achieve absolute restoration of the lineage, renewing the blood line that was defiled by Satan. This transition must be made. This is why the Messiah must surely come. Without his coming there will be no restoration of lineage” (ibid, 172-53, 1988.1.7). And the Blessing is the substantive mechanism: “the Messiah must come as the Father, welcome Eve and accomplish restoration through indemnity on the foundation of his victory over the satanic world… consummate a marital union, create a family, give birth to sons and daughters and start the process of engrafting” (ibid, 169-37, 1987.10.4).
