Elaboration. The pastor reads a line she attributes to True Father: beneath every visible surface is an ‘underground part’ — ‘a life of prayer and investing sincere effort for the sake of other people’ (Transcript, 45:05–45:26). Why does Father say we need this? ‘Because of the human fall, we’re too heavy to fly. There’s too much weighing us down. But as we sacrifice, we become lighter and lighter and we can learn to fly’ (ibid, 45:35–45:48). She likens the visible person to an iceberg whose true mass is hidden beneath the waterline (ibid, 45:09–45:16).
Significance. Prayer and self-giving are presented as the mechanism that offloads the fallen self’s dead weight, restoring the capacity to ascend toward God.
