Claim. A worship leader teaches the congregation through song choice, because sung words enter the church’s long-term memory.
Elaboration. The speaker’s first criterion for songs is biblical truth: “are the words scriptural?” and is any line misleading or false? The reason is pastoral accountability. The worship leader is “putting words in your mouth” and helping place those words “in your heart for the long term”; in that sense, he says, “I am a teacher” (22:43-24:01, Transcript). Later he describes introducing a song into the church’s “worship vocabulary” over several weeks, then selecting songs according to the sermon passage so the whole service has cohesion (25:46-26:45).
