Claim. True Parents are defined as those who, for the first time in history, fulfilled their portion of responsibility, crossed from the realm of indirect dominion (based on accomplishments through the Principle) into the realm of direct dominion, and established the ideal of oneness between God and man.
Elaboration. This is the DP-technical definition. The formation-growth-completion-stages schema posits that Adam and Eve were to grow through the indirect dominion (where the Principle governs them autonomously and they bear believers-responsibility for completing their growth) into the direct dominion (where God’s love directly governs them post-perfection). ‘Adam and Eve, with the mission to fulfill their responsibilities, should have built a bridge from the realm of dominion based on accomplishments through the Principle… to the realm of direct dominion, and completed it. Yet, they failed to do so’ (5.2. The definition of True Parents).
Because of this failure, Satan invaded the realm of indirect dominion — a critical claim. SMM warns: ‘Without knowing it, you will not be able to register in the other world.’ The True Parents are those who finally completed the unfinished bridge.
Three consequences flow: (1) the definition is functional, not metaphysical — True Parents are constituted by what they accomplished, not by some intrinsic essence; (2) the fall is reread as a failure of responsibility in the growth stage, before perfection — meaning Adam and Eve were not yet ‘true parents’ but fell short of becoming so; (3) all subsequent providential history is the work of restoring through indemnity what should have been completed at the start.
This is the doctrinal anchor for SMM’s claim to messianic identity: he and Hak Ja han are the first human couple to traverse the indirect-to-direct dominion threshold. The claim is empirically untestable but logically tight given DP’s framework. Critics from classical Christianity will engage on whether the indirect/direct dominion distinction has biblical warrant or is a theological construct; defenders will point to its explanatory power for the whole providential narrative.
