Claim. True Parents cannot exist as a spiritual condition only — they require two physical persons (husband and wife) installed on earth, because no victorious standard can be established in the physical world without physical manifestation.
Elaboration. SMM states the principle explicitly: ‘For there to be True Parents there must be two people… no victorious standard can be established in the physical world unless True Parents manifest in physical form. A condition for victory may be created in the spirit world, but a corresponding foundation cannot be laid on earth unless True Parents are first installed there’ (Section 3. The Course Prior to Becoming the True Parents The Fall led to the appearance of false parents. This is the load-bearing innovation distinguishing UC eschatology from classical Christian eschatology, which accepts a non-physical second-coming victory (resurrection, parousia in glory). By contrast, UC insists Jesus’ work was incomplete precisely because he ‘went to paradise without completing his mission’ — he could only function as ‘spiritual parent’ to Israel, not physical parent. This is why the blessing sacrament and the four-position-foundation both require flesh-and-blood spouses.
The doctrine also explains why True Mother is structurally non-optional: the messianic mission has a two-person minimum because parenting itself does. Critics (evangelical, ex-member) engage on whether this physical-completion requirement is scriptural or extrapolated from creation-design premises.
