Claim. SMM claims the term ‘True Parents’ appears in no book in history because only the Divine Principle’s revelation that the Fall was a sexual transgression makes the concept of ‘false parents vs. true parents’ intelligible.
Elaboration. The argument is genealogical: had Christianity in its two-thousand-year history understood that the first ancestors fell sexually, the inference that fallen parents are ‘false parents’ and unfallen parents would have been ‘true parents’ would have been immediate (Section 1. The Significance of the True Parents The words True Parents are among the most frequently used words of our Unification Church members. Although they are simple words, they represent a remarkable reality. This term does not appear in any book in all of history. From ‘True Parents’ SMM derives two consequences: (1) all people, including the first ancestors, must be cut off from the false lineage inherited through the Fall; (2) a love, life, and lineage connected to God begins from a ‘new original root.’ This is the load-bearing function of the term — it is not honorific but operational, naming the mechanism by which fallen lineage is severed and a new one grafted in.
The claim is also boundary-marking: ‘True Parents is a term that Unification Church members alone recognize and use.’ Christians who pray to a ‘true God’ or speak of God as Father do not, in SMM’s view, possess this concept. The originality claim is strong and will be contested by anyone who can point to parental language for God or for Christ in patristic or mystical traditions — but SMM’s specific content (parents who restore physical lineage) is what makes the term unprecedented, not the bare word combination.
