Elaboration. Sang Hun Lee draws the structural consequence (The Two-Stage Structure of Creation). The two-stage structure of creation pairs the inner developmental four-position foundation (where Logos is formed — the logical structure) with the outer developmental four-position foundation (where Logos is enacted upon creation).
Is the outer stage necessary for logic? Lee answers: ‘Yes, it is absolutely necessary.’ Because Unification logic’s purpose is to actualize the purpose of creation — to actualize love — and the practice of love is the requisite for loving. Practice means actualizing what one has thought; in structural terms, it is the formation of the outer developmental four-position foundation. The object of practice is all things and human beings: practice is to love all things and people. Therefore thinking is necessarily accompanied by motivation, purpose, direction — and should be practiced as action.
The theological origin: God first formed Logos (made plans), then began to create. The pattern of plan-then-create is itself the two-stage structure. Human thinking inherits this pattern.
The verdict on formal logic: ‘From the viewpoint of Unification logic, formal logic is not incorrect, but it is incomplete.’ Formal logic limits itself to forms and laws of thinking — the inner stage alone. A unity of knowledge and action, or theory and practice, is necessary, and its theoretical foundation is the two-stage structure of creation.
This echoes (and grounds in ontology) the Confucian-Wang Yangming theme of the unity of knowledge and action, and the Marxist insistence on practice — but with a different engine. For Unification Thought, practice is not validating theory against material reality (Marx) nor enacting moral knowing (Wang Yangming); it is the necessary second stage in a creation pattern whose purpose is love. Thinking without loving practice is structurally truncated.
