Once there appears a device that is capable of receiving life, then, and only then, can life appear.’
This is a striking metaphysical claim with several implications. It posits life as a cosmic field-like reality (not a property of organized matter). It makes DNA into a transducer for an otherwise omnipresent life-force. It explains why life appears wherever DNA is present without conceding emergentism. Critics will press on whether this ‘life field’ is empirically distinguishable from no-field-at-all — if life always appears wherever DNA appears, what work is the field doing? Lee’s reply would be that the schema explains why DNA happens to be the right kind of device, but that defense remains compressed. Worth a thread once a counter atomic exists on falsifiability of the life-field claim.
