Claim. As beings ascend the levels of creation — mineral, plant, animal, human — each higher level contains within itself the sungsang and hyungsang of all lower levels plus a higher Sungsang and Hyungsang unique to it, making the human a microcosm of the universe.
Elaboration. Lee maps a stratified ontology (A. Sungsang and Hyungsang). Minerals: physicochemical character (Sungsang) and atomic/molecular structure (Hyungsang). Plants: life (latent purposive, directive consciousness with autonomy) plus cells/tissues, while also containing mineral matter. Animals: instinct plus sense organs and nerves, while also containing plant-level cells and mineral matter. Human beings: a ‘two-fold being of spirit self and physical self,’ with spirit mind/spirit body as the unique higher Sungsang/Hyungsang, while containing the animal-level instinctive mind (here renamed ‘physical mind’), plant-level cells, and mineral matter.
The human mind therefore has two components: spirit mind (pursuing truth, goodness, beauty, love) and physical mind (pursuing food, clothing, shelter, sex). The original mind is their union. This layered taxonomy lets Lee call the human ‘the integration of all things, or a microcosm of the universe’ — a claim with strong resonance in classical and Renaissance philosophy.
Lee anticipates the obvious objection: this looks like simple emergentist accumulation, where higher beings are just lower beings plus extra layers. He pre-empts by insisting the appearance of layered accumulation is misleading. God’s actual conceptual order ran top-down — God first envisioned the unified human, then subtracted elements to conceive animals, plants, minerals — while the order of actual creation ran bottom-up. The phenomenological layering is therefore a result, not the mechanism. This conceptual-vs-actual order move is doing real work: it lets UT accept evolutionary-looking phenomenology while denying that emergence explains the human, since the human idea preceded everything.
