Claim. Fish cultivation — not catching — is the only path that can feed humanity sustainably, and SMM frames his decades of marine-industry investment as a True Parents responsibility for the world’s hungry.
Elaboration. Fish reproduce on an order of magnitude unavailable on land: “One female fish can lay several million eggs … If these eggs are hatched artificially, it is possible to hatch up to 100 percent of the eggs” (1.1. The sea is the solution to the problem of hunger, 207-218, 1990.11.11). Wild catch is too slow: “if we cultivate fish, it is possible to have up to 90 percent survive. This naturally becomes an unlimited resource. The only means to solve the future food supply problem will be through the cultivation of fish” (229-156, 1992.4.11). The responsibility is concretely owned: “Who will take responsibility for this? … The True Parents and the siblings of the True Parents have to take responsibility for it. For this reason, all our work with the sea is something I have been planning and preparing for, over the last twenty years” (217-314, 1991.6.12). The marine pivot is therefore not commerce but providence.
