Claim. Mind-body unity is the criterion of human perfection; only true love is strong enough to subdue the body-conscience conflict that Satan exploited at the Fall.

Elaboration. “Mind-body unity can be brought about only through true love” — the human body inherited Satan’s lineage and operates with a force stronger than conscience, namely “the power of love” misdirected. “Our first ancestors were deceived by Satan, and strayed in the opposite direction due to a force stronger than their conscience, that is, the power of love” (4.2. Human perfection means mind-body unity, 222-333, 1991.11.7). The remedy is endowing the conscience with more power than the body: “Once you endow more power to the conscience than to the body, the latter, however strong, would have to obey the former.” The motto “Before desiring to dominate the universe, first achieve dominion over the self!” (ibid, 222-340, 1991.11.7) names the priority. The implication: religious asceticism (fasting, cold showers, voluntary service) is not arbitrary discipline — it is the path of weighting the conscience until true love can re-anchor the body.
