Claim. Freedom cannot have caused the human fall. By definition (per dp-three-characteristics-of-true-freedom) freedom operates within the Principle and produces only good results. What caused the fall was the power of unprincipled love overwhelming the freedom of Eve’s original mind.

Elaboration. Per 5.2. Freedom and the Human Fall: “Free actions generated by free will bring about only good results. Therefore, it cannot be that freedom caused the human Fall. It is written, ‘where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.’ This freedom is the freedom of the original mind.”

The fall mechanism was contrary to freedom, not an exercise of it: “When Eve was about to deviate from the Principle, the freedom of her original mind aroused fear and foreboding in her in an attempt to prevent her from deviating.” That is, freedom was Eve’s internal warning system against the fall, not the agent of it. What actually pushed her over the brink was “the stronger power of unprincipled love, which overwhelmed the freedom of the original mind.”

The consequence for fallen humanity: “human beings lost their freedom as a result of the Fall.” But the seed of original-nature freedom-aspiration survived, and “this makes it possible for God to carry on the providence to restore it.” Hence aspiration for freedom across history is providential — see dp-aspiration-for-freedom-drives-restoration-progress.

This atomic refuses the classical “free will caused the fall” framing of theodicy. DP’s framing reassigns the cause to the power-asymmetry between love and Principle during immaturity (see dp-power-of-love-is-stronger-than-power-of-principle). Freedom is restored, not the culprit.
